We'll discuss the link to Salem, the new controller
and the repeater power supply problem.
DUE$ -R- DUE
Its that time again. Dues are normally paid
by members in the month of January ($30 / 1 year, $55 / 2 years).
So if you can help, it would be much appreciated. We need your support
so we can improve not only the coverage area of the repeater, but also
improve the quality and features of the repeaters. Send your check to:

Repeater Report
by Ed Mellnik, WB2QHS
Most of you know that the Portland ATV repeater
was down for most of December. A new transmit antenna was installed on
the last Saturday in December. The Power was checked and is running about
30 watts. This is about half of its capability. The SWR was 1:1.2.
We hope to increase that power when we bring
the repeater down this spring for re-fitting. Hopefully by April we will
be ready to install the new controller that Frank, WB7DZG has been building....as
well as put in a better receiver, and the link equipment for linking the
Salem machine to ours here in Portland.
Salem will receive our repeater on 1.2 GHZ and
we will receive the salem machine on 2.4 GHz FM. A report on
the progress of the controller can be found elsewhere in this newsletter.
ATV Nets
Mondays: 7pm
Saturdays: 11am
We use our 2 Meter FM base stations to talk
to the person who is sending his TV picture. In this way, we can ask the
"ATVer" questions or answer his questions. Tune your 2 Meter FM rig to
146.430 in Portland, or 146.450 in Salem when Portland is busy using 146.430.
Of course, tune your ATV down converter to 1277.25MHz
in Portland and to 1255.25MHz in Salem. See and Hear you on the Net!
$PECIAL THANK$
Thanks to everyone who sent in donations toward
our special Link Fund. Thanks also to those who helped with the extra expenses
in replacing the Transmitter Antenna.
Salem ATV
by Ed Mellnik, WB2QHS
Last month the Salem ATV Group has broken away
from the Salem Amateur Radio Club and started there own organization: SATVA
(Salem Amateur Television Association. Bob Boswell, W7LOU was elected President
of the group.
The Group is 100% behind the effort to link the
two ATV repeaters together. And they will also be using one of the new
ATV controllers.
RICKREAL
HAM FAIR
by Ed Mellnik, WB2QHS
The Salem Ham Fair at Rickreal will be on February
15. QATVA will run a table there. So if you can spare an hour, help manning
the table will be appreciated.
Also if you have any equipment that can be donated
to sell at the table - bring it with you or if you are not planning to
attend let us know so we can make arrangements to pick it up. The club
usually makes a few hundred dollars every year doing this. It really helps
when we have extra costs like we have lately.
You can call Ed Mellnik days at 241-8663.
NET CONTROL
by Mike Darnel, WM7L
I've been doing the net now for a while and
wanted to give you a note as to how we are doing. Over the last year I've
noticed quite a change. The number of active ATVers has increased dramatically!
We have doubled our participation on the Saturday and Monday nets. This
is really good to see. With a diverse group as we have we are getting a
lot of direction in expanding and improvements to the repeater (see the
planned Salem link!). Hope to see all of you on the air.
Here's a little bit about my station. As some
of you have noticed I can overlay graphics on top of my video signal. I
use an Amiga 2000 with an internal Genlock board. I have multiple video
sources going to a switch that feeds the Genlock. The Genlock performs
the functions of "mixing" the input video and the computer graphics. The
type of graphics that can be mixed are "still" graphics or animations.
The type of mixing is also selectable from video source only out, computer
graphics only out, or video graphics on top of the input video source.
The output of the Genlock is NTSC and feeds into another switch that allows
me to select inputs to the AEA FSTV-430 ATV transceiver. The output of
the 430 then goes to a modified Mirage D-24 (internal its a D-26) amp and
then through 9913 to a FO-22 yagi.

REPEATER CONTROL
by Frank Hoffman, WB7DZG
The hardware design phase and manufacturing
of the circuit boards has been finished. Currently the circuits are being
checked out and tested. When all circuits are tested, the software design
phase begins. This will happen in a few weeks.
Some of you have seen the new repeater controller
on the air. For those who make it to the Jan 28th meeting, you'll get a
chance to see it in person. The controller has 4 repeater/link ports (both
audio and video) and 4 local video sources such as cameras or video IDs.
As you can see in the picture, the controller is made up of 2 boards, 1)
the main board with PTT, COS, and audio circuits, and 2) the smaller video
board with 8 inputs and 4 outputs.
